Spreading the Love

Be Kind. Random acts of kindness go a long way. You can smile more as you walk down the school hallways, open the doors for strangers, or even your classmates, or even encouraging an interactive classroom by volunteering first when your teachers request someone to read aloud or answer a question. Sometimes all it takes is one student to be proactive and others will follow. Being kind means lending a helping hand to a friend, classmate, teacher, or even a stranger.

In our efforts to be kind and spread the love this month, Generation 1st Degree students took part in an initiative that involves sending sweet Valentine’s Day cards to children at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  The card is FREE to send, takes about 10 seconds to fill out, and Party City will donate $1 for each card sent! Send your valentine card by clicking here:

See Your Lessons.

Things do not always work out in the way we would like them to. You may not receive a letter of acceptance from THAT school, you may not be selected for THAT scholarship, you may not have received THAT grade, but you can take each as a learning lesson and an opportunity to see where we could have done better. Because we are not always going to come out on top, but if we learn to see that our path is not always the one we choose, but it sure does lead us to where we need to be.

Say Thanks.

When we express gratitude, we learn to view the world from a different, more positive perspective. Our parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, coaches, mentors, supervisors, neighbors, and friends have all played a major role in our lives. Throughout the college application process, we have had our teachers and mentors write letters of recommendation or even help us scan, fax, email, and complete questionnaires. This month is a great opportunity to express our gratitude to those educators who have taken time outside of the classroom to help us be one step closer to our dream by writing them a sweet valentine, delivering a sweet treat, or simply stopping by their classroom, “just because.”
